Current Message:

The Ohio House concluded its active legislative voting sessions at just before 4 AM Friday morning, June 4.  The Ohio Senate concluded at a similar time. A schedule has been announced for the second half of 2010, that calls for several weeks of active voting sessions after the November 2 general election. The schedule is available here.

Will the legislative log jam break up a little today?

12/16/2009

Today's voting sessions in the Ohio House and Ohio Senate are scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM. It appears that this may be a somewhat more productive day than those we've seen so often in 2009. This was supposed to be the last voting session until session reactivates the second week of January.  Now it looks unlikely that a long day today will be enough to finish the budget balancing task that has been mired in disfunctionality for weeks, though there are varied directrions in which this can spin. I will attempt to post additional information on today's issues as they develop.

Re-balancing the state operating budget is the big animal in the statehouse that hasn't been acting very tame. There is no absolute deadline for resolving the known budget hole before New Year's Day, but the longer the problem festers the more bad things are starting to happen in the processes that are seeking to resolve it, and the fewer and more difficult are the options remaining that are workable solutions.

Here is today's voting schedule as we went into the 1:30 PM voting session.  It may change, and the House immediately recessed until mid to late afternoon, probably because of negotiation between House and Senate leaders on attempts to resolve the budget balancing issue.
