Ohio House rubber stamps Governor's tax increase proposal

10/22/2009

Yesterday was a major debate and vote day for the Ohio House of Representatives.  Over my alternative recommendations to focus on controlling state spending, the House voted by a small majority to increase the state income tax rates for all of this year and next.

The tax increase is contained in HB 318, which was introduced late Friday afternoon, October 16. Hearings started Monday afternoon and the committee vote took place around mid-day on Tuesday.

You can watch Wednesday's floor debate at this link. Once the video is playing you can go directly to the debate on HB 318 by dragging the video slider to 00:35:20.

As Ranking Republican on the House Finance Committee, I started the debate on our alternative to the tax increase path.  You can read The Daily Record account of my comments in context: at this link.
